Downtown St. George Roundabout gets a bold new sculpture |
Discover the outdoor sculpture gallery and Art Around the Corner |
Art enthusiasts in St. George have spoken: the Main Street and 200 North roundabout will soon showcase "Rip Tide," a dynamic sculpture by Diego Harris. This selection marks a significant moment in the city's commitment to public art.
In January, the Art Around the Corner Foundation invited residents to vote on three finalists for the 2026–2027 Outdoor Sculpture Gallery. The contenders were "The Sink Sphere" by Scott Whitaker, "Together" by Nate Brimhall, and the winning piece, "Rip Tide." This initiative underscores the foundation's dedication to making public art a shared community experience.
"Rip Tide" is celebrated for its dynamic form and energy, reflecting the movement and rhythm of the community. Its placement in the roundabout is expected to become a defining visual symbol for downtown St. George, sparking pride and conversation among residents and visitors alike.
The unveiling of "Rip Tide" coincides with the opening of the 2026–2027 Outdoor Sculpture Gallery on March 28. This annual event transforms downtown into an open-air gallery, featuring approximately 35 sculptures designed to thrive in the desert climate while inspiring curiosity and connection.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the season's special events, including An Evening with the Artists on March 27 at the Hilton Garden Inn, followed by the free Gallery Opening Day with the artists in Town Square Park on Saturday, March 28. These gatherings offer a unique opportunity to meet the creators, celebrate public art, and experience the vision that makes St. George so special.
In addition to the sculpture unveiling, the city will host the annual St. George Art Festival on April 3 and 4. This vibrant celebration features over 110 juried artists, live entertainment, and a dedicated children's area, making it a must-attend event for art lovers of all ages.
For those looking to combine art appreciation with physical activity, the Art Attack 1 Mile & 5K race will take place on April 4. Starting at 9 a.m. at Town Square Splash Pad, this event offers a fun and festive way to engage with the community and the arts.
The selection of "Rip Tide" and the upcoming events highlight St. George's ongoing commitment to public art and community engagement. These initiatives not only enhance the city's aesthetic appeal but also foster a sense of pride and connection among its residents. |
