Like the Virgin River itself, this trail winds through Washington County, inviting locals to explore a lush, green corridor from Ivins to Washington City.
The Virgin River South Trail, completed in October 2024, has become a vital artery in St. George's extensive trail system. This addition brings the city's total to over 72 miles of paved pathways, enhancing connectivity between neighborhoods, parks, and key community spaces.
Starting at Bloomington Park, the trail meanders alongside the Virgin River, offering a serene environment for walkers, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts. The path is well-maintained, with clear signage and ample seating areas, making it accessible for individuals of all ages and abilities.
Efforts have been made to protect native vegetation and wildlife habitats, ensuring that the trail coexists harmoniously with its surroundings.
One of the trail's notable features is its connection to several parks, including the recently upgraded Sycamore Park. In late September 2025, Sycamore Park unveiled a new playground with a sunshade, a larger pavilion, and enhanced landscaping, providing a perfect spot for families to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Further along, the trail links to the newly constructed Rim Rock Wash Trail, a one-mile extension completed in September 2025. This $500,000 project connects St. George Regional Hospital to the Virgin River trail system, facilitating easier access for residents and visitors alike.
The Virgin River South Trail is a fantastic addition to the community, giving a total of 72 miles of paved trails in the city. In addition to providing new recreational opportunities, it strengthens connections between parks and neighborhoods.
Beyond recreation, the trail serves as a conduit for community events. In October 2024, the city hosted a grand opening and community bike ride to celebrate the trail's completion, drawing residents together to experience the new pathway firsthand.
The trail's impact is more than just a path; it's a lifeline that brings the community closer, promotes healthy living, and showcases the natural beauty of St. George.
For those seeking to discover the desert in a new light, the Virgin River South Trail offers an inviting journey through the heart of Southern Utah's landscapes, connecting people to nature and each other. |
