The Virgin River South Trail now winds through Washington County, creating a lush green corridor from Ivins to Washington City.

This scenic path strengthens St. George’s network of over 72 miles of paved trails, linking neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces.

Beginning at Bloomington Park, the trail follows the Virgin River’s edge, providing a welcoming setting for walkers, cyclists, and families.

The route includes new connections to upgraded parks such as Sycamore Park—recently enhanced with a sun-shaded playground and modern landscaping.

It also meets the Rim Rock Wash Trail, a crucial extension completed in September 2025, which links St. George Regional Hospital into the larger trail system.

City officials stress the priority on protecting native plants and habitats, while celebrating how these paths unite residents with nature and foster healthy living.

Community events, such as the fall grand opening bike ride, highlight the trail’s role as a vital gathering place.

Joke Of The Day

Why did the cowboy go to St. George, Utah?

Because he heard they had a lot of "horsepower"!

Zion National Park has announced the permit lottery schedule for the 2026 Angels Landing hikes, aiming to better control crowds on this world-renowned trail.

The spring seasonal lottery opens February 13, 2026, covering hikes from March 1 to May 31.

Summer permits are available via lottery from April 1–20, fall from July 1–20, and winter from October 1–20.

For those planning spontaneous trips, a day-before lottery allows permit applications from 12:01 a.m. to 3 p.m., with results by 4 p.m.

This system has reduced congestion and improved safety, with over 200,000 permits distributed each year.

Applicants pay a non-refundable $6 fee and, if selected, $3 per hiker.

Permits are required at all times and hiking without one may result in penalties.

Visitors are urged to plan ahead and stay updated for a safe Angels Landing experience.

St. George city leaders are requesting $20 million from the state to help fund a major expansion of the St. George Regional Airport terminal.

This $100 million project would more than double the size of the current 35,000-square-foot terminal, aiming to relieve congestion and support Southern Utah’s booming population.

Plans include four new second-floor gates, expanding baggage, security, and ticketing areas to accommodate rising passenger numbers.

The airport served over 431,000 passengers in 2025—a 35% increase from the previous year—with projections as high as 537,000 travelers by 2026.

To fund the expansion, St. George expects to contribute $25 million, supplementing with federal and county funding, and potential support from SkyWest Airlines.

Construction also began in August 2025 on a new five-level air traffic control tower, set to open by June 2027, further preparing the city for its rapid growth and economic future.
