Experience Paleontology with Fossil Finding Tours in St George |
Unearth the wonder of prehistoric fossil finds |
Embark on a thrilling journey into the prehistoric past with the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site's Fossil Discoveries program. This immersive experience invites participants to step into the role of a paleontologist, uncovering fossils that have lain hidden for millions of years.
The adventure begins with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the museum's fossil preparation lab. Here, guests gain insight into the meticulous processes involved in cleaning and studying ancient specimens. Following this, participants proceed to the nearby Substation Quarry Site, a location of significant paleontological importance. After a comprehensive safety briefing and an introduction to the specialized tools used in fossil excavation, attendees spend two hours actively digging and discovering fossils.
The Fossil Discoveries program is designed for individuals aged 8 and older, with children between 8 and 17 required to be accompanied by a paying adult. Tickets are priced at $50 per person for a single three-hour session. For those seeking a more in-depth experience, options include two sessions for $100 or four sessions over two days for $175.
The program is scheduled to run on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning October 4 and concluding December 14. Each day offers two sessions: the first from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and the second from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Participants are advised to come prepared for fieldwork. Recommended items include water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, clothing suitable for getting dirty, hiking boots, and work gloves. While excavation tools and water will be provided, personal preparation ensures a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Each ticket also grants admission to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site museum. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing previously cleaned and studied fossils, offering a comprehensive understanding of the region's ancient inhabitants.
This program offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with the field of paleontology, making it an ideal experience for enthusiasts and families alike. For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit the museum's official website utahdinosaurs.org/fossil-discoveries |
