The long-anticipated America First Performing Arts Center welcomed the St George community and beyond with an official grand opening in partnership with Utah Tech University.

This venue's transformation, spurred on by significant community and legislative support, represents a major milestone for southern Utah’s performing arts scene.

The newly renovated performing arts center sits at the heart of the university’s cultural corridor, promising a new era of creative opportunity for students, professionals, and local audiences alike.

According to recent reports, the colossal project drew upon partnerships between America First Credit Union, local government entities, and a range of private donors to realize a striking facility that envelops tradition with modern flair.

This space is designed to host events ranging from symphony performances to contemporary student showcases, truly serving as a hub for artistic expression.

Local leaders express renewed excitement about economic and cultural benefits, noting that the performing arts center is expected to anchor additional downtown revitalization efforts in St George.

Initial plans for a morning ribbon-cutting were dashed by widespread power outages, prompting a swift change to an evening ceremony that brings an added sense of anticipation and community togetherness.

The atmosphere was buzzing as an all-star lineup—featuring accomplished names from the realms of music and dance—prepares to christen the stage at tonight’s "Raise the Curtain: An Opening Night Celebration."

The sense of pride among residents and university staff is palpable, as this center becomes the new home for beloved groups like the Southwest Symphony, Southern Utah Heritage Choir, and a full range of Utah Tech University programming.

For St George, this grand opening marks more than just a new chapter for the campus—it’s a bold investment in the region's creative future.

Anyone know when the regular season schedule gets posted? Want to grab tickets before everything sells out.

America First does a lot around the community. Good to see a credit union putting money into something like this instead of just ads.

Craig BaxterGood point. It would have been easy to just slap their name on a scoreboard somewhere. At least this is something the whole community can actually use.

Watched the ceremony livestream since I couldn't make it in person. Looked like an amazing night. Jealous of everyone who was there.

tricia_mThe livestream was actually really well done. Still not the same as being there but at least they made it accessible. Did you catch the dance performance near the end?

I wonder how accessible it is for people with disabilities. Would be good to see that addressed publicly.

Glad to see downtown revitalization getting some momentum. This could bring more restaurants and shops along too if done right.

The power outage switching it to an evening event was honestly kind of poetic. Felt more like a real opening night celebration.

My students at Utah Tech are buzzing about having access to a world class performance space right on campus. Game changer for the arts programs.

Been in St George 22 years and this is one of the most exciting things to happen to this town culturally. No question.

Ron Fielding22 years is a long time to watch this town grow. What would you say was the last thing that came close to this for you?

So glad the legislative support came through for this. Not everything in this state gets the funding it deserves.

amy_stgAgreed. And honestly the fact that both local and state level support lined up on this one is kind of rare. Took a while but glad it happened.

Great facility but let's see how they keep it booked throughout the year. A lot of these places open big and then go quiet.

Attended with my husband and honestly I teared up a little. It's beautiful inside and the community energy was something else.

The arts scene in St George has grown so much in the last decade. This feels like the crown jewel.

wendy_joSeriously. I remember when the options were pretty slim. The Southwest Symphony alone has come such a long way. This feels like it validates all that growth.

What did the renovation actually cost? Would love to know how much of that was taxpayer money vs private donors.

Hope the ticket prices stay reasonable. These fancy venues sometimes price out the locals they claim to serve.
