Zion National Park announces 2026 Angels Landing lottery dates

Zion National Park has unveiled the lottery schedule for the 2026 Angels Landing hikes, aiming to manage the surge of visitors to this iconic trail.

 

The spring seasonal lottery opens on February 13, 2026, allowing hikers to apply for permits covering March 1 through May 31.

 

Subsequent lotteries are scheduled as follows:

 

Summer hikes (June 1 to August 31): Lottery opens April 1 and closes April 20.

 

Fall hikes (September 1 to November 30): Lottery opens July 1 and closes July 20.

 

Winter hikes (December 1 to February 28, 2027): Lottery opens October 1 and closes October 20.

 

For those making last-minute plans, a day-before lottery is available.

 

Hikers can apply between 12:01 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mountain Time the day prior to their intended hike, with permits issued by 4 p.m.

 

Since its inception in April 2022, the permit system has significantly reduced congestion on the narrow, exposed sections of the Angels Landing trail.

 

Park officials report that the program has enhanced trail conditions and improved hiker safety.

 

Over 200,000 permits are issued annually, distributed through both seasonal and day-before lotteries.

 

Applicants can select up to seven preferred dates and times, with a $6 non-refundable application fee.

 

Successful applicants are charged an additional $3 per person.

 

It's crucial to note that permits are required year-round for any portion of the Angels Landing trail.

 

Hiking without a permit is a violation of park regulations and may result in fines or other penalties.
