For blind marathon runner Adrian Broca, returning to the St. George Marathon means relying on trusted guides while running every stride himself.

The California athlete ran the course in 2 hours, 50 minutes in 2007 and hoped his latest effort would improve his Boston Marathon qualifying time.

Utah runners Nate Zarlengo and Sean Feeny planned to split guiding duties, helping Broca navigate turns and hold his line while matching his pace.

Broca began distance running after losing his sight as a teenager to Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, a diagnosis that brought depression and uncertainty.

Encouraged by his brother, he gradually rebuilt his confidence on familiar routes and later learned to race with a guide.

Nate Zarlengo is a great guy. Not surprised he stepped up to do this.

If you haven't been to The Biscuit Fix in St. George, you're missing out on something genuinely special. Built around Gramma Loydel's beloved family recipe, these buttery, flaky biscuits are made entirely from scratch — fresh-baked daily, no shortcuts, no apologies.

The menu is simple and brilliant: from the classic Oh Good Gravy biscuits and gravy to the crispy Mother Clucker and the dreamy Lemon Blueberry shortcake, every item is the kind of food people talk about long after the plate is empty. Gluten-free options are available too.

They're open seven days a week, 7:30am to 2:30pm — but get there early, because they sell out. Once you eat here, biscuits and gravy anywhere else will feel disappointing. They're okay with that, and honestly, so are we.

Interesting Facts

St. George, Utah sits at the crossroads of the Mojave Desert, the Great Basin, and the Colorado Plateau — one of the few cities in America where three distinct desert ecosystems converge within its immediate surroundings.

  • A Dinosaur Boneyard Beneath the City: The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm, found when a local doctor was grading land for a golf course in 2000, contains one of the best-preserved Early Jurassic dinosaur track sites ever discovered in North America.
  • Unexpected Precipitation Record: Despite its desert image, St. George received over 8 inches of rain in a single month in January 2005, triggering mudslides that destroyed dozens of homes — an event that exceeded its average annual rainfall total.
  • Nation's Fastest-Growing Metro: For multiple years in the 2010s and early 2020s, the St. George metropolitan area ranked as the single fastest-growing metro area in the entire United States by percentage, outpacing far larger Sun Belt cities.

The Cosmopolitan Grill in St. George, Utah is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've discovered a secret — world-class cooking at prices that actually make sense. Homebuyers in St. George and parts of Washington County have more room to negotiate as rising inventory gives them more choices and sellers more competition.

The shift is especially clear in Hurricane, where many homes sold below asking price during the spring selling season.

Several St. George ZIP codes also showed buyer-friendly conditions, though opportunities vary by neighborhood.

For sellers, realistic pricing, a well-presented home and flexibility on concessions may help keep buyers interested.

But more negotiating power does not mean homes are affordable: Hurricane’s median home price remained above $500,000 in the second quarter of 2026.

We just bought in Hurricane last month and did get the seller to cover closing costs. Would not have happened a year ago for sure.

Q/A Questions

Q: Why does St. George, Utah feel noticeably warmer than other parts of the state year-round?

A: St. George sits in the Mojave Desert's northern reaches at a relatively low elevation of around 2,800 feet, which is dramatically lower than most of Utah. This position traps heat and shields the city from the cold air masses that dominate the rest of the state, giving it a climate far closer to Las Vegas than to Salt Lake City.

Q: What makes the red rock landscape around St. George a different geological story than Zion or Bryce Canyon?

A: The vermillion cliffs and rust-colored formations near St. George are primarily Jurassic-era Navajo Sandstone and older Triassic layers, shaped by ancient desert dunes rather than river erosion. The Washington County area also sits on a complex fault zone, so the rocks are tilted and fractured in ways that give the terrain a raw, jumbled character distinct from the smoother carved canyons found further north.

Q: Is it true that St. George has a connection to early dinosaur discoveries?

A: Yes — the region is remarkably rich in prehistoric life. The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm preserves one of the best Early Jurassic dinosaur trackways in the world, uncovered in 2000 when a local doctor was grading land. The tracks include impressions from large theropods and even resting traces, offering a rare snapshot of dinosaur behavior rather than just bones.

Secret Little Hack

Skip the Crowded Trailheads — Use the Diagonal Street Grid to Find Secret Parking

St. George was originally laid out on a Latter-day Saint plat system, meaning several streets run at a diagonal to the standard grid near the historic downtown core. Locals exploit this quirk: when parking fills up near popular spots like the Tabernacle or Ancestor Square, cut one block over to the diagonal streets — particularly around 200 East angling toward Tabernacle Street — where the odd-shaped lots and street geometry create overlooked legal parking pockets that GPS apps never surface because they don't register as standard lots.

The same trick works when heading toward the Bloomington Hills trailheads on busy weekends. Rather than circling the obvious staging areas, drop down into the older residential streets platted just before the city's 1990s expansion boom. Those blocks were built before cookie-cutter HOA rules took over, so street parking is generous, shaded by mature cottonwoods, and almost always empty — while everyone else bakes on the asphalt fighting over a handful of official spots half a mile closer.
