Spend a little time in St. George parks and trails, and it quickly becomes clear that many hands are working behind the scenes. Alongside city crews, volunteers of all ages are stepping up to pick up litter, plant flowers, refresh signage, and keep outdoor spaces looking inviting for everyone.
Neighborhood service days are one of the most visible efforts. Community groups, faith congregations, scout troops, and civic clubs often gather on weekend mornings to tackle simple projects together. With gloves and trash bags in hand, they spread out along walking paths, around playgrounds, and through parking areas, collecting debris that would otherwise dull the natural beauty of the red rock setting.
Schools frequently join in as well. Student councils, sports teams, and clubs adopt nearby parks or trail segments, organizing cleanups that double as team-building activities. Young volunteers quickly see the impact of their work—before-and-after photos make it easy to notice the difference a few focused hours can make. Read More... |

Utah Tech University is playing a growing role in the future of St. George, giving local students a place to turn big ideas into practical skills and real career paths.
The campus sits just minutes from downtown, but its influence stretches across Washington County as students intern with local companies, volunteer at community events, and bring fresh energy into the workforce.
Many degree programs emphasize hands-on learning, so students spend as much time in labs, studios, and real-world projects as they do in traditional classrooms.
That focus on experience makes it easier for graduates to step into roles with local employers in healthcare, technology, tourism, and small business.
